What does Alg4Nut stand for?
"Algae in Ruminant Nutrition: Microbiological Foundations, Prebiotic Effects, and the Potential of Algae Cultivation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”
We investigate three key areas at the intersection of animal health, microbiology, and sustainable resource:
- How do algae and their extracts affect the health and well-being of dairy cows?
- How do algae influence the rumen microbiome?
- How can macroalgae strains from the Baltic Sea be cultivated at large scale?
Alg4Nut aims to create new opportunities for sustainable livestock production and to strengthen the regional bioeconomy in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Who Makes it Happen?
Five research institutions from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have joined forces to explore the potential of Baltic Sea marine algae as a sustainable resource for ruminant nutrition.

Alg4Nut project is funded within the framework of the EFRE program 2021–2027 of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from resources of the European Regional Development Fund of the European Union. The project started on 01.04.2025 and will continue until 31.03.2029.
