Work Package 1 is focusing on the development of Baltic Sea algae strains with high growth potential. Selected strains are analyzed to study both the biomass and their polysaccharide extracts. Using advanced methods such as acid hydrolysis, HPAEC-PAD, and GC-MS, the team investigates the monosaccharide composition and glycosidic bond types in algal cell walls.

Beyond the laboratory, the selected strains will be used for a feasibility study exploring large-scale algae cultivation in the Baltic Sea area, paving the way for future sustainable algae-based bioeconomy.
