
Prof. Dr. Bernd Kreikemeyer is an expert in Medical Microbiology and Molecular Bacteriology. His group studies mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis employing animal and also human pathogens for over 25 years with major funding from DFG, BMBF, and EU. He and his team members are also experts in human gut health and chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. They study microbiomes of patients suffering from these diseases and evaluate novel therapeutic intervention options.

Within the Alg4Nut project, Prof. Dr. Bernd Kreikemeyer and his team are leading Work Package 3, which focuses on investigating the effects of novel algae extracts on human gut health. In addition, the impact of algae feeding on cow gut and rumen health is also being examined.
