Prof. Dr. Thomas Schweder has a profound background in bacterial physiological proteomics and molecular biology of glycan converting bacteria. His group is focusing on the physiology of polysaccharide utilizing key bacteria and the characterization of relevant enzymes and pathways.

Within the Alg4Nut project Prof. Dr.Thomas Schweder and his team are primarily involved in Work Package 6. They will focus on the physiological characterization of glycan converting bacteria by using omics analyses as well as the of exploration enzymes and pathways of key microbial mechanisms of glycan utilization in rumen microbiomes.
The objectives of this team are:
- Functional genome analyses of microbial communities involved in glycan utilization
- Physiological characterization of rumen bacteria able to utilize algal polysaccharides
- Characterization of glycan-specific metabolic pathways of key bacteria
